How to Soothe Sensitive Skin
You might be surprised to learn that all skin occasionally feel sensitive. Environmental elements such as pollutants, the climate, our nutrition, and irritants present in some beauty products can all contribute to sensitive, tight, itchy, or inflamed skin. Hooray. Although you can’t control the weather, you can adjust your skincare regimen in a few easy ways to protect and soothe your skin and help avoid those annoying responses.
- Return to the basics
When it comes to delicate skin, little is more. Start with your cleanser and steer clear of harsh substances, chemicals, perfumes, and colours in favour of soothing, gentle products that will support the pH balance of your skin. Over-cleansing? Yes, it exists! You don’t want your skin to feel squeaky clean; instead, you want it to feel softly cleansed and revitalized.
- Before going to bed, remove your makeup.
The last thing we feel like doing before bed, we know it! But taking off your makeup before going to bed can easily turn into a positive habit. Leaving makeup on while obtaining beauty sleep might irritate the skin. At the end of each day, a mild foamy cleanser can help keep sensitive skin feeling clean and clear.
- Treat delicate skin with care
When we cleanse, we can be a little harsh. Rubbing, squeezing, and even drying after cleansing can make skin more irritated without you even realizing it. Spend a little more time removing your makeup. Holding the cotton pad over your eye for a little bit longer will give the eye make-up remover more time to dissolve any stubborn eye makeup so you can quickly sweep it away!
- Protect sensitive skin from the sun
The damaging effects of UVA and UVB rays on skin can occur even in the absence of sunshine. Your skin can suffer on cloudy days as well. Embrace a daily skincare routine that includes sunscreen to stay protected all year long. Try a daily moisturizer with included SPF for a more convenient option and to preserve bathroom shelf space.
- Keep your skin cool
Avoid taking overly hot showers and only wash your face with tepid water to prevent irritating delicate skin from the excess heat. Place a damp face towel in the refrigerator to use as a cooling compress on inflamed skin if you feel your skin needs to chill down.
- Guard against pollution
Throughout the day, air pollution can adhere to your skin and harm its protective layer. These irritants can accumulate on your skin over time and cause build-up. Our recommendation Cleanse frequently, ideally at the start and end of each day, to get rid of dirt and pollutants. Walking around? For cleaning while on the road, have a packet of cleansing wipes in your bag.
- Sip away
Keep your moisture levels up to aid in the tranquillity and clarity of your skin. Drinking lots of water will leave you hydrated, while moisturizing your skin twice day will help keep it balanced. Keep drinking—a lovely bottle on your table is an excellent reminder!
